Before Emmaus’ second birthday she was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, a rare disease that causes tumors to grow in vital organs such as the brain and heart, Epilepsy and a developmental delay. By three years old she was also diagnosed with Autism. Emmaus started the therapeutic preschool program at Ability KC with goals of walking, talking and learning positive behaviors.
For the first time since her diagnosis, Emmaus began to enjoy social interaction from her peers. She also took her first steps in therapy at Ability KC. Things that were previously overwhelming like scanning a room to find an object follow commands and knowing routines and rhythms are now possible since starting the ABA program. Emmaus’ mom Laurisa said she felt like the therapists and staff not only met the needs of Emmaus but the needs of the family as a whole.
