Jasmine's Story

Jasmine was referred to Ability KC for the Adaptive Computer and Communication Technology (ACCT) program because of a speech impairment after surviving a stroke as a child. Before starting at Ability KC Jasmine struggled communicating with others. She would find herself sitting in class not speaking and sometimes not presenting her work. The therapists at Ability KC identified TouchChat and Voice Chat as the best tools for Jasmine to communicate independently.

As a result, Jasmine became more confident in expressing herself. She began to actively participate in her college classes. By the end of the year, she was on the President’s Honor Roll, Dean’s List, and a member of the National Honor Society. Since graduating Jasmine has started her own graphic design business. She continues to use assistive technology to communicate with her clients.
