Before Emmaus’ second birthday she was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, a rare disease that causes tumors to grow in vital organs such as the brain and heart, Epilepsy and a developmental delay. By three years old she was also diagnosed with Autism. Emmaus started the therapeutic preschool program at Ability KC with goals of walking, talking and learning positive behaviors.
Emmaus enjoys social interaction from her peers and took her first steps in therapy at Ability KC. She is also now able to scan a room to find an object, follow commands and knows routines and rhythms since starting the ABA program. Emmaus’ mom Laurisa said she felt like the therapists and staff not only met the needs of Emmaus but the needs of the family as a whole.
